CARBON STEEL SHEET METAL PROCESSING

Main features
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Good plasticity and workability
  • Easily weldable
  • Low cost
  • Poor resistance to corrosion

With the term carbon steel, you designate the iron-carbon alloys containing small amounts of other elements such as silicon, manganese, sulfur and phosphorus, but not chromium, nickel or molybdenum except as impurities.

They are the type of steel more common and less valuable; they are easily workable and can be welded without problems. But they are subject to corrosion, especially at high temperatures; in this case they also lose mechanical strength. At very low temperatures become brittle.

Suitably protected with a layer of thermosetting resins, it's used in the production of enclosures for machine tools due to its excellent mechanical properties and its moderate cost.

STAINLESS STEEL SHEET METAL PROCESSING

Main features
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Biologically neutral
  • Easy to clean
  • Neutral and clean look

Are defined as "stainless steels" a set of iron alloys with chromium contents in excess of 10.5% and carbon less than 1.2%, needed to establish, in contact with the oxygen of air or water, a surface layer, thin and transparent, resistant to corrosion, called "passive layer".

Merkur has a long-standing experience in the processing of stainless steel sheet, from simple laser cutting to the manufacturing of casings and complex assemblies.

We normally stock stainless steel sheets in AISI 430, AISI 304 and AISI 316 grade, in thickness from 1 to 10 mm and with various finishes: 1A hot rolled, 2B cold rolled, BA bright rolled, Scotch Brite brushed, etc. .

Our creations, from design to final assembly, include artifacts made of steel sheet for the most diverse applications, such as:

  • stainless steel bodies for food and pharmaceutical machinery
  • custom cabinets for switchboards
  • hoppers, tanks, manifolds and other components made of stainless steel sheet for industrial installations
  • extraction hoods and drying ovens for printing plants
  • custom designed stainless steel furniture and urban furnishing
  • custom cabinets and workbenches in stainless steel
  • and many others....

The parts on sight that need an aesthetically pleasing finish, can be pickled, Scotch Brite brushed or peened in our finishing department.

ALUMINUM SHEET METAL PROCESSING

Main features
  • Extremely light
  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Excellent workability

Aluminum is a ductile metal silver colored, whose success is mainly due to its extremely light weight compared to other metals in common use. It also has an excellent oxidation resistance, combined with remarkable workability. In fact, pure aluminum has modest mechanical characteristics, as it's soft and ductile. It is therefore present on the market alloyed with metals such as copper, zinc, silicon, manganese, etc ..., which combined with the aluminum modify its characteristics, making it suitable for very different applications.

We always keep in stock various thicknesses (up to a maximum of 6 mm) of Peralluman 5754, an alloy with medium to high mechanical characteristics and excellent resistance to corrosion, very suitable for laser cutting and easily weldable.

We can perform laser cutting of sheet metal of various aluminum alloys at extremely competitive costs with our automatic system designed for unattended night operation.

We can create complex shapes, with bends of different types, also cylindrical or elliptical. The semi-finished aluminum parts can be welded with MIG process(with weld material) for structural assemblies. Or they can be welded with TIG (without weld material) for a more accurate finishing.

Aluminum assemblies can be painted with thermosetting powder, gloss, matte, metallic, or other.

CORTEN SHEET METAL PROCESSING

Main features
  • Resistance to corrosion
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Visual effect highly appreciated

Corten is a steel alloy combining high corrosion resistance (CORrosion resistance) with excellent mechanical strength (TENsile strength) and is therefore widely used in construction and plant engineering, as a material structurally resistant but that ensures good weather resistance without need to be painted.

Bare metal exposed to the elements, indeed, becomes covered with an even and durable patina, made up of the oxides of its alloying elements, which prevents the progressive spread of corrosion and assumes a characteristic brown color, aesthetically appreciated by many architects.

We usually have in stock corten sheet of various thicknesses, with which we build complex components for plant engineering, custom developed for our customers.

With corten we can also manufacture decorative architectural elements of different types and sizes.

BRASS SHEET METAL PROCESSING

Main features
  • Self-lubricating material
  • Distinctive appearance

Brass is the most known among the copper alloys: this is a binary alloy of copper and zinc, which with the variation of zinc content, results in a range of materials with characteristics very different from each other.

It is widely used to produce small mechanical parts because it is a self-lubricating material and in its raw state has a good elasticity.

The attributes of the sheet material we use allow a very wide range of uses, from electrical contact elements, to small metal parts, to parts for furniture.
